We are looking for people who are willing to partner with us in seeking to reach the Black Country, Sandwell and West Birmingham area for Christ.

The Need

This is a diverse area with pockets of relative prosperity but also areas of great economic and social need including a number of council estates. The population includes white British, Eastern Europeans, South Americans, Punjabis, Pakistanis, Somalis, Sudanese and Arabic people. As we meet and talk with people, we sense that there is real spiritual hunger and openness to giving the Gospel a hearing.

As a local church, Bearwood Chapel could happily settle back into our own comfort zone and seek to maintain a reasonable sized congregation. However, when we look at this harvest field we see a need that challenges us and stretches us. We recognise that the work of sharing the Gospel is something that we cannot do on our own

The Vison

We would love to see a network of interdependent congregations planted across the area with a commitment to proclaiming the Gospel across cultural divides, making disciples through consistent Bible teaching and loving their local communities.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people who have a concern to reach urban, multi-cultural Britain. This might include individuals who are ready to come and make their life in the West Midlands and lead church plants as well as others who might assist as part of a team for a period of time. It might be that you are ready to start planting straight away but we would also be looking for people who might benefit from a few years training and experience within an established church first.

We would also love to hear from churches and groups who have a concern for urban mission and who may be able to partner in other ways such as through prayer and/or helping to support individuals.

We are looking for people who will share our passion for the Gospel and a commitment to making disciples through sound biblical teaching. Partners would be expected to agree with us on the essential beliefs of Christian faith.

What we can offer

We are not a large or a wealthy church, however we still feel that there’s much that we can offer in return to those who come and partner with us. This will include

  • Fellowship (planting is often lonely work),
  • Local knowledge,
  • Mentoring
  • Training

union

As well as in-house courses we are really excited to be able to offer the opportunity to study for Union School of Theology’s GDip in Theology as part of the Birmingham West Learning Hub which we will be hosting at Bearwood Chapel from September 2017.

This means that you will be able to receive top class theological training whilst starting out as a church planter, living in a local community and beginning to share the Gospel.

You will:

  • undertake 20 hours of academic study per week via online media, personal study and group tutorials.
  • Receive 1-1 mentoring to encourage you as you develop your church planting plan
  • Gain practical experience of different aspects of urban church ministry including evangelism preaching, youth and children’s work, pastoral care etc

Please note that we cannot offer salaried positions. Individuals will be responsible for raising their own financial support either through the support of other churches and individuals, part time work or a mixture of the two.

What to do next

We would encourage you first of all to talk and pray with your current church leaders to see if this is something that you should follow up on. If they agree that it is right to pursue this further, then get in touch with us either through the contact form on this page or by Email to dave@bearwoodchapel.org.uk

This will enable us to meet, talk and pray with you to see if it is right for us to partner together.
